The subtle racism by trying to not be racist. The other colors on the side are just too much. The normal rainbow flag works because it's such a well known symbol in society, and the arrangement of the colors is very satisfying. Here's my thoughts:įrom an artists' perspective, it's just straight up messy. I fucking hate this flag, for the exact reasons you listed here. They go through things I will never experience and it feels disingenuous to put them on “my” flag as a footnote just so I can feel better about myself on this issue just through being LGBT. Making this flag the “inclusive” version of the flag just makes it easier to avoid acknowledging each group’s unique experiences.īlack and Hispanic people aren’t totems. LGBT people don’t get a pass on being racially accepting when one’s sexuality does not guarantee being a racist OR supporting racial minorities of any orientation. Putting black and brown in the flag as just another stripe seems like brushing over all of that in favor of a wished-for solidarity.
DO PEOPLE LIKE THE NEW POC GAY FLAG SKIN
I’m a trans white dude, so the struggles I’ve experienced just don’t touch on my skin color in the same way systemic racism does. The black and brown addition is odd considering what hispanic and black LGBT people sometimes endure from bigoted black and Hispanic people (who exist!).Ĭramming (only dark skinned ) racial colors into the sexual minority flag really seems like a way to dilute the issues each respective minority group receives and the reasons for it.īy all means, add black and brown to a flag for the black and Latino LGBT to rally with and discuss their lives with others, but don’t act like all LGBT are automatically accepting or understanding of them because it is not true.
DO PEOPLE LIKE THE NEW POC GAY FLAG FREE
Feel free to disagree- as a white cis gay woman I’d be willing to change my mind if I hear that it genuinely makes sensible trans or lgbt people of color feel more welcome. It seems like just virtue signaling, making a more “woke” pride flag. The person who made it goes by neopronouns However I am white so ya know if you’re an LGBT person of color would love to hear your thoughts seems a bit weird/racist for those colors to mean both. And then according to this article, the black and brown also stand for AIDS victims. The race thing- Obviously the rainbow flag includes LGBT people off all races!!! Honestly seems kinda racist- are they implying normal rainbow is just for white gay people? I think the people of color at the stonewall riots would beg to differ. There’s history behind the Pride flag, and no reason to throw it away.

It feels straight up disrespectful to change the flag people flew when they were fighting for their literal lives and rights in the 60s. I understand the need for a separate trans flag when advocating for their rights specifically, but the Pride flag already includes all LGBT people! Separate identities have their own flags, it would be impossible to have one flag that included all the flags.

That has been the flag of the LGBT community for decades. Personally, I really dislike it, but I’d like some sensible opinions on it. (Talking about the rainbow with a triangle on the left that has trans gender flag colors and black and brown) What do you guys think about the new prose flag? I just recently started seeing it a lot in my city, and I came across this article about it.
